Welcome to Women's Tournament ChallengeWelcome to the 2009 Women's Tournament Challenge. The March to the Arch has arrived and that means it's time to become part of the madness. The next step is easy. Just select which teams you think will win each of the 63 tournament games that tip off March 21. You earn points for each game you correctly predict. The point value for a correct pick increases with each round of the tournament, culminating with the NCAA championship game in St. Louis on April 7. All 63 games are on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN360.com, so follow along as you pull for your picks to survive and advance. Bragging rights aren't all that's at stake. If you pick the most games correctly, you could win a $3,000 gift card from Best Buy. And just for taking part, you are eligible for the runner-up prize, a $1,100 Best Buy gift card. So what are you waiting for? Sign up now, then come back every day, every round or every game to track your progress. But beware: Upsets happen every year, and picking them is what will separate your bracket from the rest. Just don't go looking for perfection. This season, that belongs solely to No. 1 Connecticut, which ran the table for the program's fifth undefeated regular season. The Huskies topped both Top 25 polls all season and are the prohibitive favorite to win their first NCAA title since 2004. Now, we know UConn won't be the last team standing in every bracket. Oklahoma, Maryland, Auburn, North Carolina, Louisville, Stanford and California have all been in the mix for a No. 1 seed at various points throughout the season. And though Tennessee is likely going to receive its lowest seed in program history, keep in mind that the two-time defending NCAA champion has never lost in the first or second round. Florida State, Duke, Baylor and Florida could also make extended stays this March, and keep an eye on the Summit League's South Dakota State, which finished the regular season ranked more than 10 spots ahead of the aforementioned Lady Vols in the polls. And of course, if you need help making your picks, ESPN.com's Mechelle Voepel, Graham Hays and Charlie Creme will weigh in with their thoughts shortly after the bracket is unveiled on Selection Monday, and then will cover the games from every angle in each round. Fill out one bracket, or as many as 10. Join or create a group and get started. There's no reason your name can't top the leaderboard when all is said and done in April. This is as good as it gets, so sign up now and lace up your dancin' shoes for 18 days of hard-court excitement. Melanie Jackson is the women's basketball editor for ESPN.com. |
